We have been very privaliged recently to start work on Cornwalls iconic St Michaels Mount. We have been brought in as specialist sub contractors to conserve and partially restore the Roman cement decorative features to the façade of the blue drawing room. In order to prevent further deterioration we are repairing and putting back some of the decorative elements that have been lost living in such an exposed environment.
Using Vicat Prompt, a traditional natural cement made to the same recipe as the 19th century roman cement stucco, it has involved the free hand modelling of the ornate gothic details and some in-situ run and cast sections. With the help of Phil Brown of The Cornish Lime Company we are then applying a sacrificial shelter coat of pre blended Prompt, fine aggregate and natural earth pigments, colour matched to the original details. This will act as a protective layer to take the brunt of the weathering.
